Seal Beach 5K/10K Run This Saturday
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The annual Seal Beach 5K/10K charity fund raising run is this Saturday, April 4, 2009. The run, which also includes a Kids' 1K Fun Run, starting line is at the Seal Beach Community Center, 151 Marina Drive, Seal Beach, CA 90740. The finish line is at the Seal Beach pier.

The Kids' 1K starts at 7:45 am and the 5K/10K run begins at 8:00 am. There is also a 5K walk which starts at 8:05 am. pre-registered participants can pick up their race packs on Friday at the Seal Beach Community Center between 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm and on Saturday starting at 6:30 am. If you want to run and have not registered, that's ok, late registration is accepted and they expect about 1,500 walk up registrations. More than 4,000 participants are expected to run.

The racers will each have electronic tags which become activated when they leave the starting line. The times are then electronically recorded when the runners pass a sensor at the finish line. This means that times will be accurately recorded even though all runners will not cross the starting line at the same time. So, if your wife or husband is ahead of you in the line up, you can still come in with a better time, even if you cross the starting line a couple of minutes behind them.

The race, which is run by a non-profit community organization, donates all of the proceeds to recreation programs, services, and facilities in the greater Seal Beach community. The recipients of this year's donations will be announced after the race. In 2008 they awarded a record $86,000 to 18 organizations across a wide range of community program needs.
