Local Soldier Killed in Iraq

The Defense Department announced that one of the five soldiers killed on Friday by a suicide bomber in Iraq was PV2 Bryce Edmund Gautier, 22 of Cypress California. He was killed along with four other soldiers when their Humvee was struck by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Mosul, Iraq.  They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment,
2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.  


Gautier had been serving in Iraq from January of this year. He joined the Army January 16, 2008 and had been with his unit since November 4, 2008. During his brief time in the Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal , the Army Service Ribbon, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Gautier's military occupational specialty was that of a healthcare specialist. AS such, he would have been primarily responsible for providing emergency medical treatment, limited primary care and health protection and evacuation from a point of injury or illness. He was born on February 2, 1987 in Los Angeles County and attended Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove California.
