Hang Out With the Fish for an Unusual Valentines Day

Valentines Day is a special and important day for the romantics among us, but it's sometimes hard to come up with something new and creative. Many couples we know avoid the typical restaurant dinner on February 14 because of the crowds, cookie-cutter meals, and the inherent rush on what may be the busiest day in the restaurant business. Nevertheless, something memorable is called for. Consider hanging out with the fish!

Our very own Aquarium of the Pacific is offering something special for the big sweetheart day. You and your special someone will experience the unique ambiance of the Aquarium at night (less crowds!) and enjoy a gourmet meal in their Cafe Scuba. After or before dining, you can stroll arm and arm through the galleries. They will be open until 9:00 p.m. that night. Since they generally close at 6:00 p.m., these nocturnal visits are usually restricted to members only events, but on this special occasion, non-members are welcome to hang out with the fish during the evening.

The dinner offering includes the choice of one entree: Pan Seared Sustainable Halibut with a Roasted Butternut Reduction over Red Pepper , Basil Orzo and Grilled Root Vegetables, or, herb Roasted Statler Chicken Breast with a Meyer Lemon and Orange Compote over a Three Cheese Au Gratin Potatoes and Grilled Root Vegetables, or, Polenta, Cremini and Gouda Stuffed Eggplant. The meal also comes with farm Fresh Mixed Greens with Mango, Cherry Tomato, Red Onion and a Balsamic Glaze. Dessert is a Double Chocolate Tort with Vanilla Cream and Candied Strawberries. Fresh Baked Gourmet Rolls and Butters are also included.

They have two seatings available: 6:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. The cost is only $40 per guest, $30 per Aquarium member and this includes Aquarium admission. This is really a bargain since admission alone is normally $23.95 per adult.

RSVP is required, so call (562) 590-3100, ext. 0. Click here for the directory listing.

If you decide to give this unique Valentines Day adventure a try, leave a comment and let everyone know how you liked it.
