Half Price Carnival Tickets Today—Los Alamitos 50th Celebration This Weekend

The City of Los Alamitos celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend. There will be a parade, live music, and a Carnival. The City is offering 50% discounted carnival tickets until 4:00 PM Friday. The carnival starts at 5:00 PM.

The festivities take place at Laurel Park on the corner of Katella and Bloomfield. The carnival will feature rides (see slide show), game booths, a vendor fair and food available for purchase. Half priced carnival tickets may be purchased from the Community Center, 10911 Oak Street, until 4:00 PM on Friday. After that, full priced tickets may be purchased at the carnival.

The first of three live music events gets underway at 7:00 PM Friday at the carnival. The band will be the “Rockit Scientists” (see slide show), who will entertain until 10:00 PM.

Next up is the parade on Saturday morning. Starting at 9 am, and with over 85 entries, the parade features the Los Alamitos High School Band, the high school dance team, the powerful Griffin football team, the 40th Division Infantry Band from the Joint Forces Training Base, Weaver, Rossmoor, Lee, Hopkinson and Los Alamitos Elementary Schools, McAuliffe Middle School jazz band and studio singers, and numerous youth and non-profit groups.

Miss Rossmoor 2009 will also appear in Saturday’s parade, , along with fire trucks, police, elected officials from Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Rossmoor, and Cypress, boy scouts, Mayflower Pre-school, and just about every other local organization imaginable.

The parade route starts at Los Alamitos High School and ends at Laurel Park on the corner of Katella and Bloomfield. Spectator parking is available before 7:30 am at McAuliffe Middle School. Cerritos (between Los Alamitos Blvd and Bloomfield) and Bloomfield (between Cerritos and Katella) will be closed to thru traffic at 7:30 am.

The live music for Saturday night features the Barcodes (see slide show), a popular local classic rock band who will be appearing live at 8:00 PM on the main stage and entertaining the crowd with popular tunes from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. The Barcodes have been rockin’ the Southern California scene for 12 years. Angie Avery, Director of Recreation & Community Services, Told www.OC180NEWS.com, “Bring your dancing shoes!”

The carnival continues on Sunday, noon to 10:00 PM. The live entertainment for Sunday is the Raymies, from 4:30 to 6:30. See the slide show for their photo.
