New Summer Dance Camp!
“Broadway Babies”
Register now at the City of Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department for Broadway Babies, a 4-day dance camp for 4-6 yr. olds taught by beloved instructor, Anne Pennypacker. Camp will be held at Seal Beach Marina Center, 151 Marina Drive, Seal Beach on Aug. 3-6, Tuesday-Friday, from 9:30-11am. Little dancers will create their own costumes, hold mini-auditions, sing, dance, and prepare for the stage. Imaginations will soar as we act out characters and scenes from beloved Broadway shows! Don’t miss the special show at week’s end!
Class #1477-30; Fee: $72+$2 processing fee. Additional $10 material fee is payable to instructor at first class.
Summer Cheer and Pom Camps at Los Al
Check it out! The City of Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department is offering weeklong cheerleading camps for kids structured by former NFL cheerleader, award-winning coach, and kids’ dance instructor, Kim Esmond.
Tiny Cheerleaders Cheer Camp (Class #1484-30) for ages 5-8 yrs. is the perfect camp for the 1st time cheerleader! Campers will learn the fundamentals of cheerleading including arm motions, jumps, chants, fun and easy pom dances to High School Musical songs, as well as crafts, games, performance skills, and team building activities. *Fee: $99 + $2 proc. fee; M-F, 10am-12pm
Cheerleading & Pompon Camp (Class #1485-30) for ages 6-11 yrs. is all about cheerleading and pompon dance with the professionals. For those new to cheerleading, or those who just want some fun over the summer, this camp will teach you chants, pompon dances, arm motions, jumps, technique, flexibility training, and performance skills. Plus, learn to make cheerleading crafts and play fun teambuilding games! *Fee: $129 + $2 proc. fee; M-F, 1-4pm.
Cheerleading campers will showcase a new cheer and exciting performance for family and friends on the last day of each camp! Please wear sneakers, comfortable clothes, and bring water and a snack. Weeklong camp is on August 16-20 at the Community Center, 10911 Oak Street. *Camp fees subject to additional $20 cash supply fee payable to the instructor on the 1st day of camp and will cover materials needed to make various team spirit props.

Fine Art in the Heart: Painting for Kids
"Fine Art in the Heart: Painting for Kids" is back at the City of Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department for kids aged 7-12 yrs. old. Students will see various paintings by famous artists and interpret them in their own way with acrylic paints on canvas. Instructor Michelle Lindsey will discuss light and shade, color, line, gesture, shape and texture. In each class, students will create a painting using the design elements of the artist studied that day. Final class will feature an art exhibit for family and friends! Please note that paint will not come out of clothing, so dress appropriately. Space is limited so register now!
Class #1374-30; Fee for 5-week class is $68 + $2 processing fee. Additional $15 supply fee is payable to the instructor. Classes will be held at the Community Center, 10911 Oak Street, on Fridays, Jul. 30-Aug. 27, from 10:00-11:15 a.m.
Kids Cooking Camp at Los Al
The City of Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department welcomes back instructor Lauren Squier and her fun and exciting “Kids Cooking Camp” for ages 6-11 yrs. old. This 3-day camp will be held Mon-Wed, Aug. 9-11, from 1-3pm at the Community Center, 10911 Oak Street. Young chefs will learn about food safety, how to read recipes and how to have fun cooking! Campers will cover breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes over the course of camp. Recipes will include baked egg cups, BLT wraps and turkey meatballs.
Class #1264-31; Fee is $65 + $2 processing fee. Additional $20 cash supply fee is payable to the instructor.
Martial Arts at Los Alamitos
The City of Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department continues to offer Martial Arts classes courtesy of Master Shawn Shilati and staff of Red Scorpion Martial Arts (www.redscorpion.com). Tae Kwon Do - Low Intensity (*$56; Class #2179-31) for ages 4+ yrs is designed for students who are looking for a fun and enjoyable way to learn the basic Martial Arts and Self-Defense Methodology. Parent participation is required; please do not bring unregistered siblings. Tae Kwon Do - High Intensity (*$60; Class #2180-31) for ages 6+ yrs. is known for its dynamic kicks, punches, and blocks designed to enhance physical conditioning as well as teach self-defense, self-discipline, self-esteem, self-control, and respect. Muay Thai Kickboxing (*$60; Class # 2181-31) for ages 8+ yrs. is a great form of self-defense with the effective use of the knee and legs. Class will develop physical coordination and stamina.
Register now! 4-week session from August 3-26 will meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Community Center. Uniforms are required and may be purchased from the instructor for only $35. *Each class fee is subject to an additional $2 processing fee per participant.
Los Alamitos Music and Movies in the Park
The City of Los Alamitos Recreation & Community Services Department is delighted to present the second Music and Movies in the Park on August 7th showing “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” at Laurel Park. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, friends and the entire family for a movie night under the stars! The fun will begin at 7pm with free art activities for kids and live music entertainment. The first 200 people will receive a chocolate bar that enters them in a raffle. The raffle will take place right before the movie begins. Available for purchase at minimal cost are grilled hotdogs from Revolution Church and fresh popcorn and drinks from the City of Los Alamitos. The movie will begin at dusk.
Remember to also save the date for “Disney’s UP” on August 28th at Laurel Park on the corner of Bloomfield and Katella Avenues.
