ABOUT THE AUTHOR

On Thursday, January 19, The Los Alamitos High School dance program kicked off the new year with their annual winter show, “Three Wishes”.

Each LAHS dance show has a story behind it, and “Three Wishes” tells the tale of three girls who find a magical lamp that contains a genie. The genie promises each of the girls one wish - one wishes for money, one for fame, and the last for love. As the performance progresses, the girls find that instant gratification does not solve any of their problems; it only temporarily assuages their desires.

The show features a few popular songs such as “Criminal Intent”, “Rumor Has It”, and “Burlesque”, with a few instrumental-only songs sprinkled in and “Deeper Love” as the closer. Although tickets to Thursday’s and Friday’s shows have already been sold out, early attendees can purchase tickets to Saturday’s show if they arrive at the LAHS Performing Arts Center a couple hours before the 7 pm performance.

“I really feel like people will love this show because of all the emotion,” Tara Bloom, a sophomore and member of the Los Alamitos High School dance program, said. “The audience will feel the same joy, anger, fear, and sadness that the dancers are portraying on stage. It will definitely be a memorable performance.”

If you know a student in the dance program, you can earn community service recognition by helping out at performances as a seamstress, photographer, videographer, ticket collector or behind-the-stage tech helper - the program is always seeking those who are willing to assist with shows. If you’re interested in purchasing tickets in advance of other performances, order forms can be found online at the LAHS dance program website. Reserved front-row seats are $12 each, and general admission seats are $10.

The Los Alamitos Unified School District serves nearly 10,000 students in Seal Beach, Rossmoor, and Los Alamitos. The district includes Los Alamitos High School, a full service high school, Laurel High School, a continuation high school, McAuliffe Middle School, Oak Middle School, and six elementary schools. Mrs. Meg Cutuli is the current President of the Board of Education. Dr. Sherry Kropp is the Superintendant of the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
