National Championship Sailing Season Starts This Weekend With Racing On Local Waters

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (June 8, 2011) � Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, Calif. will host the U.S. Multihull Championship for the Hobie Alter Trophy on June 15-18, preceded by the U.S. Youth Multihull Championship for the Arthur J. Stevens Trophy on June 10-12. Competition in Viper F16s will take place on the waters of San Pedro Bay, either in the Long Beach outer harbor or off the Seal Beach Pier.

Doug Baker, Long Beach, skippered the Reichel/Pugh 78 Akela to first-to-finish honors Tuesday and was first in Division 1 on corrected ORR handicap time in Long Beach Yacht Club�s biennial 2010 Long Beach to Cabo San Lucas International Yacht Race. Bob Lane�s Andrews 63 Medicine Man, also from Long Beach, finished first in Division 1 on corrected PHRF time.

Art Melendres� Cal 25 �One Time� took top honors in the Cal 25 Regional Championship Sunday under sunny skies and changing breezes of 5-13 knots in this classic regatta hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club.
But contrary to the boat�s name, he finished first more than one time dominating the weekend with four first-place finishes in the five-race regatta.
