RPMT contacted the City of Los Alamitos on June 25th, to report a maltese/poodle dog was viciously attacked in her own backyard in front of her owner who was standing a few feet away. This attack took place on Wallingsford and Donnie Ann behind the Fish Company.

More Aggressive Coyote Sightings

Caltrans repeatedly insisted there were no coyotes on their freeway right of way which is now part of the freeway construction. (See our numerous articles on this subject in the “Other articles” below.) Of course, nobody living on Martha Ann, adjacent to part of the construction site was the least bit surprised when a trapper caught four of the predators in this very same strip of “no coyote” Caltrans land. But, the trapping certainly has not rid Rossmoor of the problem.

When Karen Muccino, 51, a resident of Rossmoor, returned home from the hospital after complications from open heart surgery, she expected a restful recovery. Little did she know that within 7 hours, she'd have the heart stopping shock of her life.

Trapping Nets 4 Coyotes On Caltrans Land Behind Rossmoor

In a second round of coyote trapping in Rossmoor, four coyotes were bagged behind Martha Ann.
Another Rossmoor Coyote Daylight Stalking – Normal Animal Behavior, Or A real Threat?

This time it was a woman out walking her two dogs. But unlike the last such encounter (see related article below), this one happened in the middle of the day – you know, the time when we are supposed to be reasonably safe from the predators.

2 Coyotes Threaten Jogger, Puppy Attacked In Walled Back Yard – Freeway Land Clearing Continues

The last time we checked in with Caltrans (see related story below), they still could not find any coyotes at the back of Rossmoor - try telling that to Julie and Randy. In separate unrelated coyote attacks, she was threatened by two charging coyotes and his puppy is lucky to be alive.

Freeway Land Clearing Starts This Week, Coyote Trapping And Rat Poisoning Began Around Rossmoor, State Fish And Game Says They Are Ready

Based on the latest update OC180NEWS received from Caltrans, the land clearing and grubbing behind Rossmoor will start this Thursday. This raises concerns that the work will disrupt coyote and rat habitats, sending the critters scurrying for cover into Rossmoor. In anticipation, coyote trapping was launched in Rossmoor last Friday, county officials have been setting poisonous rat traps, and state Fish and Game officials say they are ready to move forward with the construction project.

605 Freeway Land Clearing Starts Monday – Beware Of Rats And Coyotes

Starting as early as Monday, January 17, 2011, Caltrans and/or the contractor will start clearing the vegetation from along the construction zone on the 605 Freeway. The last time Caltrans tried that, they were so overrun with rats the project was halted until the rodents could be eliminated.

Coyote Update – Small Town Politics, More Pet Killings, Storm Drain Grates, Traps Coming Soon To An Area Near You

Despite a political rebuff from the Rossmoor Homeowners Association, the Rossmoor Predator Management Team puts on a happy face and moves on. Their monthly report for October identifies more pet killings, and the county says storm drain grates are on their way. Meanwhile, the homeowners association plans to start trapping.
