Most of the important provisions of Arizona's controversial new immigration law were blocked by a Federal district court judge early Wednesday morning, just a day before it was set to go into effect. What does this ruling mean for the future of the law, and assuming it eventually goes into effect, what impact would it have on a California resident vacationing or otherwise travelling in Arizona?

When Congressman Dana Rohrabacher learned the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles was setting up a one day satellite office in Avalon, he planned a helicopter trip to the island and his office fired off a threatening letter and phone calls to the private facility hosting the event. His letter so intimidated the Santa Catalina Island Company, they cancelled the event. But, the Consulate believes the event was completely legal and routine�they moved it to St. Catherine�s Catholic Church in Avalon.

As the rain in Southern California poured down, yesterday NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, GISS, in New York announced that January 2000 to December 2009 was the warmest decade on record. But, West Orange County congressman Dana Rohrabacher, long known as a global warming skeptic, was incredulous and called the numbers �fraudulent�. A NASA spokesperson acknowledged the data come from a small sample of all monitoring stations, but they stick by their numbers.

On Wednesday our U.S. Representatives Ed Royce, Republican, 40th District of California, serving Los Alamitos and Rossmoor, and Dana Rohrabacher, Republican, 46 District of California, serving Seal Beach, voted against H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. The bill passed the house on a 249 - 175 vote. President Obama strongly supported the legislation and 18 Republicans voted in favor of the bill.

Our Republican Congressional Representatives, Dana Rohrabacher, representing the 46 Congressional District, and Ed Royce, representing the 40th District, voted against a major wilderness preservation bill this past week. The bill, dubbed the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, protects 2 million acres of wilderness from development and was pass by the House without any California Republican support, except for yes votes from Rep. Mary Bono Mack, of Palm Springs, and Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon of Santa Clarita. The bill provides the maximum level of Federal protection for more than 700,000 acres of California wild lands and enhances scenic rivers protection for 8 rivers in California.

Now that we, the taxpayers, own nearly 80% of A.I.G. and the bonuses have been paid, what should be done about the mess? As Rep. Ed Royce attends a subcommittee hearing in Washington, President Obama flies into Long Beach airport. There is enough finger pointing about who is to blame and the public is clearly outraged, but the important question now is what should be done about it.
